Epithelium covers our bodies protecting us from the outside bacteria environment. Our bones have additional protection called a membrane that protects it if the bacteria should enter our bodies.
We have teeth that are in both environments, outside and inside. The strong enamel and dentin of our teeth protects the pulp chamber’s delicate tissues from the bacteria infested in our oral cavity. Added to this are strong circular fibers, Functional Epithelial Attachments, that seal the root portion of our teeth protecting them from the bacteria loaded environment. Therefore, we have the crown portions of our teeth in the bacteria infested oral cavity and the root portions in the bacteria free portion inside the body.
