149 - Lasers Less Effective than SRP


Research has shown lasers are less effective in treating periodontal disease than Scaling and Root Planning. This should not be the case. What are we missing? In this course you will learn how to improve laser treatment to achieve a better outcome. You will also learn the major cause for the poor performance of laser periodontal surgery.

In other parts of the mouth bone grows back relatively easily. In the lateral sinus lift procedure, the sinus membrane is raised from the sinus floor, allowing a collagen membrane or Platelet Rich Fibrin to be inserted. Bone grows back into the space created within six to eight months for collagen membrane and within three to four months for Platelet Rich Fibrin insertion.

If we do a maxillary ridge expansion by laying a flap, create space with a titanium mesh, create a field of blood by drilling into the alveolar bone, new bone will grow under the titanium mesh.
