139 - Porphyromanas Gingivalis Bacteria


Porphyromonas Gingivalis bacteria found in the periodontal pockets may be responsible for a host of systemic diseases in the body. Gingipains, a endopeptidase enzymes secreted by the bacteria is found in the brain tissue of Alzheimer victims. The gingipains are also found in the diseased aorta, heart, spleen, kidney, joints, and pancreas diseases. This course will go over how the bacteria accomplishes this. Will we live longer if we can eradicate periodontal disease, especially this, bacteria.

Porphyromonas Gingivalis is a gram-negative anaerobic rod with long and short fimbriae. This means it does not need oxygen and can survive deep in the periodontal pockets. It is thought, the bacteria is transferred to another person via the mouth. It has no mobility. It is subject to the currents around it.

Once the bacteria is in the mouth, it quickly adheres itself to any floating food particles. These particles pick up other bacteria in the mouth that number in the billions....
