135 - The New Periodontal Disease


In this course we will review the current dental literature relating to Periodontal Disease and delve into other possible scenarios responsible for Periodontal Disease.

There seems to be some confusion what a plaque is:

Plaque:

A Plaque is slime or biofilm that flows over our teeth and tissues. You can find it in mountain streams on the rocks where the water rushes over it. Bacteria in our mouth increase in numbers when we feed them nutrients. They mix with the salvia and flow over our teeth.

We have bacteria and yeast cells in our mouth and in our digestive system. They are a necessary part of us. If we remove all the bacteria from our mouth with extensive mouth rinses, the yeast will become more abundant leaving behind salvia loaded with yeast flowing over our tongue and teeth.

Mucin salvia, the sticky protein, coming from the submandibular and sublingual gland after blood passes through them, flows constantly over the teeth and tissues. Food particles loaded with bacteria and the free bacteria (3-6 billion) land....
