103 - Clenching vs. Dental Treatment


This course will make you aware of the clenching as it pertains to dental treatment. If we do not recognize clenching in our treatment of dental disease, we will have many unexplained failures. Clenching can destroy crowns and fillings, create denture sores, be responsible for periodontal disease, and causes pain after extractions.


Clenching vs. Emergency Treatment

How many of you have open and drained a tooth in a patient’s mouth only to find the pulp chamber to have pink healthy tissue inside? You have just killed a healthy tooth. Yes, the patient was in extreme pain. You did not see any exposure. The periodontal ligament was enlarged. Your rationale for opening and draining the tooth: Irreversible Pulpitis! This would mean the bacteria had entered the pulp chamber causing the breakdown of the tissues resulting in blood or serous material under pressure extruding from the tooth upon opening the pulp chamber. Instead, you have nice pink tissue. What happened?

The above condition happens frequently. Perfectly healthy pulp chambers are being opened because....
