Most offices do not integrate the Hygienist into the practice properly losing out on valued production and not treating the periodontal disease. They are usually in the practice to do one thing, relieve the practicing doctor from the periodontal department allowing him to concentrate on the more supposedly lucrative areas of dentistry, the implants and crowns.
In the larger corporate practices, the Hygienist has her own world usually separate from the practicing doctor. Though even here she is usually under producing. The office is lucky to break even. What is missing here?

Let’s consider what her production usually consists of:
1.She usually schedules one patient per hour or eight patients a day maximum. In reality this is six patients.
2.She will perform a prophylaxis on at least four of them earning 200 dollars for the office.
3.She may have a couple of Root Plannings to complete out her day earning 140 dollars.
